The essential idea of the book, like everything written about the economics of happiness, is that a person is not a part of the economics mechanism, his life is not controlled by some “invisible hand of the market” or forces beyond his control. Man and society can choose their future. Over the past century, some groups in the population have become signifiantly wealthier, and many people have become better educated and healthier. Unfortunately, not all of them became happier. Therefore, it is time to decide whether to follow Aristotle’s insight several millennia ago – the highest goal of all people is happiness, or to implement the first article of the Constitution adopted during the French Revolution: “The goal of society is common happiness”, or to create a 21st century happiness economy and a happier society. For that, you have to give up your life.
